Hi Karen,
I'm English and living in 94 just outside of Paris. I am thinking of beginning classes for 3-6 yrs
old French children using Nursery Rhymes. Have taken alot of info from this website already but i
think it will be hit and miss at first to organise the classes as i am not sure how the kids will
adapt to English. I'm hoping they will take to action rhymes and at least learn a few words.
If you would like to chat you are welcome to contact me on '[email protected]'
Do you have a family? My children are 3.5 yrs and 7.5 mths. I'm hoping my little boy will help me
with the classes!!
Good luck with your lessons!.
Thanks

Hi,
As a Brit living in France I am constantly being asked to start some English
lessons for young children. I have recently taken on two children (6&7yrs) but
I'm finding it rather difficult to know at what level to pitch the lesson. They
have spent a year in America and so they speak basic English. This is proving
harder to deal with than if I were starting from scratch! Neither child is very
keen on poems, they both want to 'work' ie, talk a lot and write things down.
They love to colour but they are rather slow and they tend to use colouring time
as way to talk about anything, rather than repeating new words or sticking to the
subject in hand! I'm enjoying preparing the courses but could do with a little
moral support - I don't want to scare the kids off by making things too hard and
at the same time I don't want them to be bored. Any ideas for a novice
'teacher'????
Thanks - just post a reply to Karen in France!

THIS IS IN RESPONSE TO CRAFT FOR "CHILDRENS DAY" I AM NOT SURE IF THAT IS A HOLIDAY
SIMILAR TO ONES IN THE STATES; HOWEVER, MAKING SMALL PICTURE FRAMES OUT OF POPSICLE STICKS ARE
WONDREFUL CRAFTS TO MAKE. USE THE DIFFERENT COLORED STICKS AND HAVE GLITTER AND ALL KIND OF
TRINKETS TO DECORATE THEM WITH. YOU CAN EVEN STICK A MAGNET ON THE BACK SO IT WOULD BE ABLE TO
STICK TO THE FRIDGE.
HOPE IT HELPS,

This is in response to the PE teacher wanting new ideas for basketball with younger
children...I find that if you start teaching the aspects of b-ball with balloons they tend to be
more interested. Also, you could make different goals at different levels that they could place
the ball in. Another idea is to play "freeze ball". Play music and while the music is playing,
the children are to bounce the ball, but when the music stops, they are to freeze with the ball in
their hand. If they move while the music stops they are sent to the "cookie jar", or whatever you
wish to call it. Keep this up until there is only 1 student remaining...he/she is your winner and
they receive a treat.
Hope this helps you,

A lesson plan. Fun bowls!
A great art project for any time! Fun and easy!
All you need is:
Constuction paper
water
glue
paint brushes
Fun string, jewals, rocks, buttens, and ribbin
plastic bowls (if you have a cool whip bowl or a sour cream bowl almost
anything will work)
Lay out a long piece of paper. Mix your glue and water together. Grab
your plastic bowl and pick out the colors of construction paper that you want
for your bowl. Tear the construction paper into small pieces, or big pieces.
It depends how you want your bowl to look. Note: The smaller the pieces the
longer it takes.
When you are done tearing your paper, dip your paint brush in the waterey
gule. Paint the whole bottom of your bowl with the waterey glue. Then put a
piece of your torn construction paper on the bottom of your bowl, over the glue.
Then paint glue over the piece of paper. Repeat several times untill you are
done with the bottom of your bowl. Note: You always want to over lap your
pieces of paper, or else your bowl will not turn out. Make sure that you
always put glue on each piece of paper after you lay it down. A good tip: if
you don't want to get your fingers gluey you can pick the torn paper with your
paint brush. Also make sure you are constantly putting glue on all the pieces
of paper. ( Don't be afraid about putting to much glue on, although you don't
want too much.)
