Gargoyles: Notre Dame
Gargoyles are grotesque statutes of fantastic beasts that act as water spouts, directing rain water away from the building they are on. The gurgling sound of the water pouring out of these imaginative sculptures led to the name gargoyle.
The coloring page above is based on two stone gargoyles that sit perched atop the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, France. The Gothic-style Notre Dame Cathedral was built during the period from 1163-1345. Some of the cathedral's gargoyles were added during the restoration of the Cathedral in the 1840s.
