Dr. Tom Holtz and Dr. Michael K. Brett-Surman
answer dinosaur questions for the readers of ZoomDinosaurs.com
:

I know this Spinosaurus thing is starting to get annoying, but is JP3 taking liberties with Spinosaurus? It seems awfully fat and out of shape, not to mention large to the lightly built animal the scientific community is used to. And are Jack Horner's estimates of a 60 foot, 8 foot skull Spino excessive? He seems rather bent on his T.Rex is a scavenger idea and it seems to carry onto the movie...
from Lillian T., age 14, ?, ?, ?; July 12, 2001

TOM: At present we only know Spinosaurus itself from incomplete fossils, although we can fill in the gaps from closely related dinosaurs such as Suchomimus and Baryonyx. There has been talk about a skull of Spinosaurus that is over 7 feet long which is in private hands: if true (and until it is described somewhere in detail it is just a rumor), that might indicate a 55-60 foot long Spinosaurus. Even if this is an exaggeration, Spinosaurus was clearly a gigantic dinosaur.

It may be that Dr. Horner (as consultant for the creators of the Jurassic Park series) may be trying to influence the portrayal of Tyrannosaurus, but the T. rex as seen in the first two movies was certainly far more of a hunter than Dr. Horner would have liked it!
