The Test of Time A Novel by I. MacPenn |
If Spinosaurus was larger then T-rex, how
come T-rex was the largest Dinosaur from 1905-1995 and spinosaurus was discovered in 1915?
from Ana N., age ?, New York, NY, USA; July 27, 2001
TOM: Well, T. rex was never considered the largest dinosaur, only the largest carnivorous dinosaur. But you are correct in wondering why Spinosaurus didn't get its proper respect. Part of that was because it was known from only fragmentary material (which was eventually destroyed by Allied bombing in World War II). Part of it was that writers of popular American books on dinosaurs weren't familiar with Spinosaurus other than its fin: they weren't aware of how big it really was.
