The Test of Time A Novel by I. MacPenn |
In the JP3 movie the raptors had feathers, is that true?
from Katie V., age 14, Tabernacle, NJ, U.S.A.; July 27, 2001
TOM: Actually the JP3 raptors had far too few feathers, in my opinion. At present, every single species of dromaeosaur (raptor) for which the
impression of the body is known has shown that they were covered with feathers. Although we do not yet have body impressions for Velociraptor or Deinonychus, it is simplest to assume at present that they were feathered, too. Weird, huh? However, it must be remembered that dromaeosaurs were the closest relatives to birds, and the most primitive birds were already covered with feathers. It has now been discovered that many kinds of small advanced meat-eating dinosaurs had some form of feather structure.
