GAUSS, J. C F. Johann Carl Friedrich Gauss (April 30, 1777-Feb. 23, 1855) was a great German mathematician, physicist, and astronomer. Gauss did important work in number theory, analysis, differential geometry, statistics, magnetism, and the theory of the motion of planetoids. |

Greek Alphabet The Greek alphabet has 24 lettters, alpha, beta, gamma, delta, epsilon, zeta, eta, theta, iota, kappa, lambda, mu, nu, xi, omicron, pi, rho, sigma, tau, upsilon, phi, chi, psi, and omega. The Bayer system in astronomy uses Greek letters to denote stars by their relative brightness in each constellation (in order of decreasing brightness).
