Drawn in charcoal from 1897 to 1901, Dancers in the Wings, by Edgar Degas, is a sketch of four dancers waiting backstage and peeking just around the theater’s curtains. Degas frequently drew ballerinas, spending much time observing their movements and dances at the Opéra de Paris.
The artist Edgar Degas (July 19, 1834-Sept. 27, 1917) was a French impressionist.
