Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022), of the House of Windsor, was the Queen of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth countries for over 70 years (1952 to 2022). This makes her the longest reigning British monarch and the longest serving female head of state in history anywhere in the world! In fact, the only monarch with an undisputed reign longer than hers is France’s Louis XIV.
Elizabeth was married to Prince Philip Mountbatten. They had four children (including the future King Charles III). She became the constitutional monarch of the United Kingdom when she was just 25 and was known for her sense of duty as she oversaw Britain and the Commonwealth.
