I put a new story up in Fiction.
from Gianna, age ?, ?, ?, ?; September 8, 2002

"Stenonychosaurus=Troodon? Why did they come up with another name then>"

The best explanation is another case of nomen nudum, and perhaps the most famous.

In 1977 someone (not sure who anymore, but I think it was O.C. Marsh) named some gigantic fossil bones Apatosaurus. But in 1979 someone else (now this person I totally forgot) named them Brontosaurus, and because that name was later used on a series of popular stamps lots of people started calling Apatosaurus and any other similar looking dinosaurs "Brontosaurus." But because Apatosaurus was first, it is the right name, and Brontosaurus is a Nomen Nudum, a name with no animal attached to it!

So if what I read is right then either Troodon or Stenonychosaurus is a Nomen Nudum. But I don't recall when either was named so I can't guess. And I could very well be wrong anyway.

"NO NO NO NO NO!!!! I HAVE NOT GIVEN UP!!!!!!!!!"

"I wish my parents would let me go on here again because you obviously need help with a good topic to keep you going." -Diloph" *WELL, ONE DAY EVERYONE WILL BE ABLE TO COME HERE FREE. OPTIMISM MAKES LIFE BEARABLE.*

LONGNECK DINOSAURE
from VINCENT C, age 4, TEMPE, ARIZONA, ; August 29, 2002

Is it OK if I vote on someone else's behalf JC? I remember Gianna and maybe a few other people did this.

I'll let them write it in themselves:

'I'm very fond of the Ankylosaurus...flat,dumpy, herbivorous and relatively harmless, unless provoked. This must be the true "renaissance dino" of all time.'

(They're a fan of classical music BTW.)
from da masta, age ?, ?, ?; June 25, 2002
Sure, JC

"Hey we're actually TALKING! About dinosaurs! That guy that used Tim's name (if it was a girl they would use MY name, remember?) was really helpful."

Well, I was away too long to see the actual post itself, but I get the impression that being helpful was not this person's goal.
