Allosaurus wasn't sissy!
No animals just prey on one kind of animal. Allosaurus probably would've hunted on most animals of the time like stegosaurus or dryosaurus and the later allosaurs would've fed on Iguanodons.

Yes, A.Fragilis didn't reach 40 ft. That was A.Maximus.
A. Fragilis probably had an average length of about 25-35 ft. There are many different examples of what might be A. fragilis: Apatodon,Creosaurus, Epanterias, Labrosaurus, Saurophagus have all been reffered to as Allosaurus.

"Allosaurus had an average length of 30-40 ft.
The larger adults could reach up to 40 ft."

I would have to disagree, I believe Allosaurus's average size was somewhere between 20-30 feet, based on the statistics I know from various allosaur specimens. The University of Utah Vertebrate Paleontology Collection's allosaurus is 7.9m (26.07 feet) in length and 2m (6.6 feet) high at the hips. The United States National Museum's allosaurus is 7.4m (24.42 feet) in length and 1.8m (6 feet) at the hip. I do not know the exact figures of the allosaurus at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, but from personal visual experience I'd place it at about 25-30 feet, and maybe 6 feet or more at the hips (the pose the specimen is in makes it hard to extrapolate its size just from looking at it). Having visited the Dinosaur National Monument in Utah, I can report that their allosaurs are likewise within this size range, their hip height being not much taller than me. If there is an allosaur specimen over 30 feet, I am not aware of it, and would like to hear about it. I highly doubt any allosaur (fragilis) was 40 feet in length, that must be a referrence to the "maximus" species, which appears to be T.rex sized, but is too incomplete to accurately gauge its size.

Notes: For those who are wondering, exact figures for the allosaur specimens are taken from "Predatory Dinosaurs of the World" by Gregory S. Paul. One meter equals 3.3 feet, so those who would like to can check my math.

"First of all, T.Rex would have a hard time killing Allosaurus, it wasn't that easy, nothing that T.Rex killed was that easy to kill. Except for hatchlings or something."

What's so hard, T.Rex was designed to kill within one or two bites. In that case, given the fact that Allosaurus is SMALLER and LIGHTER then T.Rex, one good bite on Allosaurus almost anywhere save the tail and it's finished, kaput.

"Second, It's Allosaurus, not "Allosissy". Allosaurus can kill sauropods 3 times its size. It's OBVIOUSLY not SISSY!!"

Yeah right, firstly, Sauropods were not THAT hard to kill compaired to other animals, and secondly Allosaurus could NOT kill sauropods 3 times its size by ITSELF. It had to rely on a pack, and what's 10 or so Allos on one sauropod? (If you watched WWD, there's a scene where a great deal of Allos converged on one sauropod, but just to trap it and wait for it to die, they didn't even dare to touch it while it was alive) A buuh of sissies that's what.

from Tim M., age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 31, 2001

actually gianna allosaurus did hunt in packs, now that a new large theropod has been discovered in a pack it suggests that large theropods hunted in packs. The packs were probably about 2 to 10 members in a pack.
from T-master, age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 31, 2001

"Allosaurus didn't hunt in packs..."

Why wouldn't allosaurus hunt in packs? It would certainly be more benefitial than a solitary existence, not to mention more efficient. By hunting in groups, they can tackle larger prey and fend off rivals easier. Besidies, I believe that some evidence has been collected pointing to gregarious behavior among allosaurs. I could cite something, if you'd like.

"...it could bring down like 10 year old sauropods, but not the GIGANTIC ones"

Umm...according to studies conducted on Apatosaurus, it was concluded that that they were nearly FULL GROWN between 10 and 16 years; being half-grown around 5 years. I assume you meant a juvenile sauropod, being around 5 years of age. But even half-grown, an apatosaur is still larger than a single allosaur, which is a problem in itself for the individual allosaur.
from Ten-Shun, age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 31, 2001

"Allosaurus had an average length of 36 to 38 ft."

Actually, I believe the typical allosaur's (Allosaurus Fragilis)length was 20-30 feet. Thirty-six feet would be a large individual. I can cite some statistics on various specimens if anyone would like, if they do not believe me.

Two things to deal with.

First of all, T.Rex would have a hard time killing Allosaurus, it wasn't that easy, nothing that T.Rex killed was that easy to kill. Except for hatchlings or something.

Second, It's Allosaurus, not "Allosissy". Allosaurus can kill sauropods 3 times its size. It's OBVIOUSLY not SISSY!!
from Gianna, age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 30, 2001

T-rex didn't only specialize in things he could bite. A T-rex probably could have taken down a Sauropod if it ever coexisted with one. Allosaurs probably needed to hunt in packs to bring down Sauropods, while T-Rex could hunt solitary. But the prey that these dinosaurs ate doesn't really prove much in the long run.
I'm going to compare T-Rex and Allosaurus:
T-Rex was longer than Allosaurus, when we compare average sizes as well as exceptional sizes. T-Rex had an average length of about 40 ft., Allosaurus had an average length of 36 to 38 ft.
T-Rex could grow to well over 50 ft.(over 15% larger than Giganotosaurus), while Allosaurus has been known to grow to about 41 ft. When it comes to weight, T-Rex has the advantage again.(don't worry, Allosaurus will have its advantages)T-Rex has an average weight of about 6 to 7 tons, while Allosaurus has an Average weight of about 4 tons. Then there's speed... Allosaurus was lighter and shorter than T-Rex, but that doesn't really matter. T-Rex, in fact, is the largest Coelurosaur. T-Rex was built like the rest of his group, who were all designed for speed. T-Rex had an average stride length of 16 ft. So if T-Rex took two strides per second(which it would do in a sprint) it could reach high speeds(probably over 30mph). Allosaurus could have been fast to an extent. Allosaurus had an average stride of around 10 ft., which means, even in a sprint Allosaurus couldn't match the speed of T-Rex. So let's recap- T-Rex was designed to move, and since it had such a long stride, it could achieve great speeds. In killing tools, Allosaurus has his jaws. Allosaurus jaws were powerful, (not quite as powerful as Tyrannosaur jaws) with serrated teeth. These teeth were about 4 to 5 inches long. These teeth could slice, and that was there specialty, but they weren't much for crushing bone. Allosaurus also had a robust neck for ripping things and for supporing its head. T-Rex had the same type of neck. T-Rex had the most powerful jaws of any dinosaur, and those jaws were lined with thick, bone crushing teeth that were 7 to 13 inches long. But T-rex teeth didn't only crush bone, they were also serrated. T-Rex in unrivaled in killing power amongst the dinosaurs.
But Allosaurus has an extra weapon, robust arms with large claws for ripping.(very useful when it came to hunting Sauropods). T-Rex didn't have this, but it didn't really need it. When it came to senses, T-Rex had an excellent sense of smell, very good hearing, and very good eyesight. We don't know much about Allosaurus senses.

To make a very long story short, T-Rex gets the overall advantage, but an Allosaurus would be a formidable opponent for a T-Rex if they ever met...
from Tim M., age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 30, 2001

T Rex becos he could kill Allosaurus easily with no sweat
from ?, age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 30, 2001

Note that T.Rex didn't need large arms because he was so friggin' good, he didn't need arms to hunt. Meanwhile, we have Allosissy trying to kill things with his arms.
from ?, age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 30, 2001

Whoever said Tyrannosaurus had no size advantage over Allosaurus is gravely mistaken. You see, going by proportion, T.Rex is 1.5 times more massive then Allosaurus. So a 40 foot T.Rex would be 1.5 times more massive then a 40 Allosaurus. Bad news! A.Max was only as long as T.Rex, not as massive. So T.Rex still had the advantage.

Besides, who needs a size advantage in T.Rex's case anyway? T.Rex was faster and his weapons were amazingly more effective. It's kinda like comapring a WW2 tank to a modern tank of similar weight. There no weight advantage, but the modern tank is far more effective and deadiler. The technology gap between Allosaurus and T.Rex is like that between a WW2 tank and a modern tank. T.Rex was a very advanced and evolved dinosaur.
from ?, age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 30, 2001

Allosaurus probably didn't eat fully grown sauropods but T Rex probably didn't eat fully grown tricerotops because the risk of fatal injury is to high.

from ALLO, age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 29, 2001

"Some people think that T. Rex was bigger than Allosaurus."

Which is quite true.

"However, there was a species of Allosaurs called 'Allosaurus Maximus' which was just as long as your average T. Rex."

I note that you said "your AVERAGE T. Rex." Based on that, you have probably heard of the gigantic Rexes recently discovered, both of which were larger than Giganotosaurus; the latter which in turn is probably larger than Allosaurus maximus.

"So you see, in a match, Tyrannosaurus Rex had no size advantage over Allosaurus Maximus."

I have already covered this arguement. Nothing new here.

Another vote for T.rex while I'm at it.
from Ten-Shun, age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 29, 2001

"All I'm saying is that I think that it was harder for T. Rex to kill things that were his size and biger."

You are correct in stating that T.rex primarily preyed upon animals its own mass or smaller. But exactly why is it more difficult for a single Tyrannosaur to bring down an animal its own mass, than it is for a pack of Allosaurs to bring down an adult sauropod?

Notice I said a PACK of allosaurs; a solitary allosaur's chances of bringing down an adult sauropod are slim to none, even if it did use a "bleed to death" strategy... It'd have to be a very patient and careful predator if that were the case. Even in packs, I suspect that allosaurs primarily went after the younger and smaller sauropods, as even a dozen allosaurs could not finish an entire adult apatosaur carcass before it rotted into inedibility.

(Note: In my use of the term Allosaur, I am referring to the common Allosaurus Fragilis, not the rare and late arriving Allosaurus Maximus).

This is a vote for Tyrannosaurus.

Allosaurus had slicing teeth because sauropods like apatosaurus a so big and there invertibrae are so big and strong that it would be alot easier to kill it by blood loss. It would also be very dangerous hunting sauropods because they actually had quite a few wepons.
1 There shear size made it very difficult to kill
2 They had sharp claws on there feet so if they could use them if they reared up on there hind legs
3 there tails. there tails were very strong and had a wip like end for defence

And Allosaurus didn't only hunt sauropods they hunted Stegasaurus and that had 1 meter long spikes. And it hunted fast Hyspsilophodontids like Dryosaurus.

This vote is for Allosaurus
from ALLO, age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 29, 2001

some dinosaurs were just to big to attack. Like Brachiosauras and Sauroposiedien. Smaller sauropods like apatosaurus were easier but still large for theropods. We know that allosaurus killed apatasaurus, but they probably killed weak ones or ones that were alone or only a few together.

Thanks for respecting my opinion, Tim M.

It is my opinion, though, and I'll stick to it, through thick and thin. All I'm saying is that I think that it was harder for T. Rex to kill things that were his size and biger. He specialized in killing things he could reach with his mouth, but that's about it. Really, he could only kill things he could bend down and bite. Allosaurus, though, I envision him as a spectacle of gold and red scales, capable of ripping and tearing anything he saw. He'd target his prey and let loose with all his might on it.

Some people are saying Allosaurus was "better" than T-Rex. That;s your opinion and I respect it. First of all, you guys made up this "T-Rex was hardly a match for Triceratops" Ther's no evidence of that. Besides, T-Rex ate Triceratops, we know that for a fact. But what do you think is harder to kill?? A slow, stupid, clumsy Sauropod? Or a quicker, more intelligent dinosaur with HORNS? Yes, hunting Sauropods wasn't without risk, but to say Allosaurus was stronger than T-rex because Allosaurus hunted Apatosaurus and T-Rex "only" hunted Ceratopsians, well, I can't agree with that...
Also, Monster Mash brought up the arms.(It's always the arms isn't it?) T-Rex didn't need long arms because his jaws could do better.
T-Rex had the most powerful jaws of any dinosaur, with teeth meant for crushing bone. Allosaurus had teeth to slice. Now what kills you faster? Getting your vertebrae crushed or bleeding to death? Yes Allosaurus was built to kill Sauropods, but that doesn't mean it was better. T-Rex was built to kill highly specialized herbivores.
As for Allosaurs being bigger than T-Rex, well it's possible, but no Allosaur specimen has been found that is larger than Rigby's T-Rex, which is over 50 ft. long. T-Rex was also probably faster than Allosaurus, given his Coelurosaurian relations. Allosaurus was a Carnosaur. Anyway, if these dinosaurs would ever match up, it would be a good fight.

from Tim M., age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 29, 2001

Here's what Tim M. said about Apatosaurus: "a slow, stupid sauropod" which, might I add, was ten times the weight of his predator Allosaurus.
Here's what Tim M. said about triceratops: "a quicker, more intelligent dinosaur with horns" that was half the size of T. Rex.

"T. Rex was probably faster than Allosaurus given his coeulurosaurian relations."

I'm going to stress the word vertabrate.

"Getting your vertabrate crushed..."

To do this T. Rex would have to be able to bite into Allosaurus' back by bending down, but he couldn't have done that seeing as he wasn't taller than Allosaurus Maximus.

"Or bleeding to death?"

While it's longer, it's more painful and you're eaten alive.

actually gianna allosaurus did hunt in packs, now that a new large theropod has been discovered in a pack it suggests that large theropods hunted in packs.

I can cite some statistics on various specimens if anyone would like, if they do not believe me.

from David B., age 12, Elmo, Missouri, United States; October 30, 2001

And if it could survive living with carnivores like that, it could live with T REX. (It probably just avoided fights, though, just about almost every tyrannosaurid could kill a spinosaur. But I reckon they lived in mutual respect and didn't fight.)

I repect you! T rex and spino lived in different places! I said that too! Maybe people will listen to our joint opinion? Yes? Also, CARNIVORES LIVE IN MUTUAL RESPECT, TODAY TOO. WATCH A WILDLIFE DOCUMENTARY! T REX COULD KILL SPINO, BUT IT IS NOT WORTH IT, REXES WOUNDS COULD GET INFECTED LATER!

I never said anything that Spino was fierce because he ate long fish, but that is pretty cool that some dinosaurs actually killed large fish that a human couldn't hardly even carry, besides rex probably would win against spino, but spino might turn side ways and make itself look bigger than it is. In rexes head " Thats a huge dinosuar" That is one way Spino defeated other dinosaurs.

Besides that is really a dumb thing to say how t-rex just fell down for the movie producer. Dinosaurs like t-rex and Spino arent alive and they wouldn't be smart enough to be trained if they were alive,

The only dinosaurs that we would be able to train is troodon and its relatives, and if you worked for a long hard time you might be able to train a raptor. But they arent alive.

THE FACT THAT PEOPLE GO ON AND ON ABOUT HOW BIG THE FISH SPINO CAUGHT AND HOW DEADILY IT MADE IT ARE OBVIOULY STUPID. COMMON, A TEN FOOT FISH IS NOTHING COMPAIRED TO A 9-TON TRIKE T-REX HAS TO TAKE DOWN COMMONLY. SPINO NOT SO WHIMPY BECAUSE IT HUNTED 10-FOOT FISH? HECK! IF YOU WERE A 40-FOOT DINO AND HUNTED 10 FOOT FISH, BIG CONTEST...NOT! SPINO IS STILL A WHIMP EVEN IF HE HUNTED 20 FOOT FISH...FISH? THAT'S CUPCAKE CITY, YOU GOTTA BEAT THOSE FOR ME. HA! LOOK AT REX, I LUV THIS GUY, HE'S ONLY 6 TONS BUT BEAT 9 TON TRIKES AND SOMETIMES 10 TONS LAMERTOSAURUS, NO PROBLEM, KILL, KILL, KILL, AND REX FANS DUN MAKE A BIG DEAL OUT OF IT...WHY? BECAUSE IT'S SO CLEAR REX WAS BETTER... MEANWHILE, DUN SPINO PEOPLE KEEP GOING ON ABOUT 10 FOOT FISH...10 FOOT FISH...HARH, HOW DELUDED CAN YOU GET? REX WILL HAVE NO PROBLEM BEATING A DINO THAT MAINLY HANDLES 10 FOOT FISH. REX RULES... DID ANY OF YOU PEOPLE READ THE REVIEWS FOR JP3? IT'S A LOUSLY MOVIE.
from ?, age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 25, 2001

Actually in JP3 T-rex was pretending to be dead, why else would he not bite down hard on Spino's neck? Because the director told him so! If T-rex bit down as hard as he did when feeding normally, Spino would have died already, it didn't even take T-rex to go all out. Obviously T-rex juz wanted to please the director and get his paycheck, smartly walking away from a such a poor movie like JP3 that bombed entirely. Spino on the other hand, went on to act in the movie and got laughed at by people all over the world, layman and scientist alike as the most ridiculusly overdone and overhyped dino in showbiz...gee, a good track record. And Spino didn;t have the anility to run fast at all, he was a slow animal compaired to an animal like T-rex which was adapted for speed. It wun even be a close fight. Spino's big arms were slung too low under the body to be used as a flexible attack. In short, Spino was virtually inferior in terms of weapons. His long snout, like all spinosaurs were made out of very thin bone to be light, unlike T-rex's heavily-built shock-absorbing skull. T-rex would easily crush Spino in a bite. Spino on the other hand would have incredible trouble trying to even crack T-rexes' neck. Face it, JP3 is as bogus as a three-cent penny. In real life, it's painfully clear T-rex would have EASILY triumped over Spino.

T-rex.
from ?, age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 25, 2001

Da masta...do you know what ya are saying? T-rex had the MOST powerful jaws in the entire animal kingdom, by a factor of almost TWELVE over the closest competitor! And if its jaws weren't as powerful as its neck (or most of the power wasn't even there as you said), I can't even start to imagine how powerful his freakin' neck was! It must be stronger then 20 incredible hulks put together! So powerful one shake will rip spino scrawny butt into two...wait...that's not hard to imagine.

from Micah D., age 11, Altoona, UNITED STATES OF AMERIVA, America; October 24, 2001

T REX has 60 knife like teeth big as bananas and with a serrated edge, to CUT THROUGH flesh. Most of the power was not in its jaws, (which where still VERY strong) but in the neck. The neck was robust, and strong, to help support the skull, and what it probably did was slice hunks of flesh off animals and rip 'em off with the neck. It would charge, and the head would crash into the prey, and it would die very soon. Spino, on the other had was larger, and had more teeth. But these where brittle and straight, designed more for gripping slippery fish. But it had longer arms and big claws. Also, the bones which supported the skin sail have grooves in them, they had blood vessels. The sail was full of blood. It could conveniently flush red for mating display, etc. but if it got torn the animal would bleed to death.

It was a more powerfull hunter, with the strongest jaws, etc.
Also, we don't know anything about dinosaur behaviour. So often paleontologists have to look at modern day animals. There is no reason why certain dinosaurs could not have behaved like certain modern day animals.

from Simon .W, age 12, Ipswich, Queensland, Australia; October 23, 2001

What I said didn't have anything to do with Jp3, besides I said Rex had a better chance of killing spino, but in the movie the rex grabbed onto the spinos neck, you didn't see it bite down it only grabbed on, then the rex let go, giving the spino a chance to get rex, the spinosaurus grabbed rex, it didn't bite down with force, but it broke it's neck by twisting it. That is possible, only Spino should have had a bleeding neck from the bite. There isn't much proof that spino ate fish, only that its teeth were shaped for it. Spino also has the ability to run fast and they have larger and more powerful arms than rex, I'm not saying that Spino is a better dinosaur, but if a rex and spino ever fought, it would be close.

One color therory for a raptor is that it had stripes to warn other dinosaurs away, that might be so. But you might be right because I think someone in dino talk said that one feathered dinosaur was found with stripes, and since raptors did have some feathers on them, they might have had stripes.

mystery person that said spinosaurus was a whimp is pretty wrong,

Though t-rex had a better chance than spinosaurus at winning a fight, spinosaurus could of eatan larger prey than fish. There really isn't much evidence that shows it eats fish. It is only thought that it did because it hung around marsh and swampy areas. Besides if it did eat fish it ate fish over 8 feet long, plus like it's smaller relitave the baryonxe who not only ate fish but was found with iguanodon fossils in it. This can prove that spino, being bigger than baryonxe could probably kill larger food.

Ahh, I had a feeling you would say that, da masta. Well, the reason that foals that are hiding freeze whena predator has to do with camouflage, not vision. If the deer freezes in a area where it is camouflaged, It makes it harder to see. If the deer had frozen in the middle of a wide open pasture this technique wouldn't have worked. If the predator can't see the deer because it is camouflaged, that certainly doesn't mean the predator's visual acuety is based on movement. Also, if the deer doesn't freeze, the predator will notice it, (see my post regarding stimulus), but again, this doesn't mean that the predators vision was only acute when it came to motion.

Spinosaurus Aegypticus - could it kill T Rex everyone is wondering. Cosidering they ever met (impossible) and they decided to fight (not that likely) all I can say is that it would be a close one. T Rex has the more massive jaws and strong neck, but spinosaurus is a bit bigger and has a longer jaw packed with long teeth. Also, I think it is interesting that spinosaurus had straight teeth. It is one of the only (if not THE only) carnivorous dinosaur to have straight, not curved teeth. No adaption in nature is ever without a reason. So why could it have had straight teeth?
from da masta, age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 21, 2001

from da masta, age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 21, 2001

Tim M - Still, my point remains. You watch a wildlife documentary. Deer foals hiding in grass freeze when danger threatens, (don't they?)and we still do not know about dinosaurs. They may have ran from predators, but small and not particulary fast dinosaurs like Callovosaurs may have been camouflaged (like a fallow deer foals spots) and froze when large carnivores where sensed.

I have to disagree with one thing you said, da masta, even though I acknowledge your intelligence. First of all, I live in an area where there are many deer. It is unusual for me if a I don't see a deer per day. They frequently graze and rest in my front yard, I can have had the opportunity to study them. Let me tell you, they run as soon as they see you moving in their direction! Now I'll change to a scientific point of view. Animals respond to stimulus, and the flight of the deer is consistent with this. Light provides a stimulus, and the deer respond by running away. This has nothing to do with motion. Deer will run with a static light source if they do not expect it. Dinosaurs would also respond to stimulus in a similar way. It does not involve motion, but rather a change in the visible field. This is similar to all seeing creatures. The eye responds to changes in contrast, color, or image.

Gianna Utahraptor is better than velociraptor because its like a velociraptor but 3 times the size.

UTAHRAPTOR
from Tom G, age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 19, 2001

Gianna - In the sense which YOU mean which is better velociraptor or Utahraptor, Utahraptor is better. Bigger, stronger, more powerfull, and velociraptors where only 1.8m long and had hollow fragile bones. But each was well adapted to it's habitat and way of life equaly well.
Velociraptor did not need size and power, it lived in a different place on different prey.

from Da masta, age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 19, 2001

Some people say that it is ridiculous that T - Rex had vision acuety based on movement.

1) You know that animals like deer sometimes freeze when faced by a predator, so vision acuety based on movement would be a major drawback. But we don't know that dinosaurs did it! They may never have frozen still to confuse predators, and ran, so vision acuety based on movement is still possible.

2) T REX had other excellent senses like hearing and smell, and maybe others we can't even imagine, so it would not need eyesight so much.
from Da masta, age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 19, 2001

Velociraptors running as fast as poodles is absurd. You can see from their skeleton that they are built to run. Stiff tails held straight with bony rods, clearly an adaptation to running fast, they would be of no use if the velociraptors ran as fast as poodles. They had light bones, full of air hollows, and long tibias (shin bones.) I think it is quite obvious that velociraptors where speedy hunters, running down small hypsilophodontids, jumping on them, and eating them. Velociraptors, unlike their larger north american cousins Deinonychids, had very fragile, hollow bones and could not have attacked large prey, even in packs, because of the severe injuries it could take. At 1.8m long, raptors would have run down small animals. Deinonychus, on the other hand, was larger and more sturdy, with a shorter and more powerfull neck, smaller arms, and at up to 4m long looked more like a carnosaur. Several Deinonychus skeletons have actually been found with a! 6.5m Tenontosaurus skeleton, so they would have been pack hunters, chasing down larger prey, but velociraptors would have lived on mammals and small ornithopods.

Spinosaurids, suchomimids, and baryonyxes are all supposed to have lived on fish, and I've seen people argue about it. However, I think we should compare dinosaurs to modern day animals. What I have in mind is the grizzly bear. I'm sure you've all seen the pictures of grizzlies catching salmon as the fish struggle upstrean to spawn. But they don't live on fish, they eat many things. Dear and bison carcasses, voles, fish, cattle, anything they can get their paws on. So spinosaurids, suchomimids, and baryonyxes may well have eaten fish, and fossil fish have been found between their ribs to prove it, but they would have eaten other things too, I can't really image such a large land carnivore living on just fish.

Velociraptor was built to be quick for its size, but it wasn't very fast compared to some dinosaurs, because it had only about a 2 ft. stride even during suspensory locomotion! According to the calculations I did a few days ago, under these circomstances Velociraptor could reach speed of 25, maybe 30 miles per hour in short bursts.

Of course you must realize that this information is about two years old. The latest studies indicate raptors are not anywhere near as fast as previously thought. Velociraptor didn't go anywhere near 40 mph, if you want to know. What paleontologists are saying now is that the raptors are not fast. For Velociraptor, I'll give him 15-20 mph

My fav Herbivore dino is Leallynasaura. It was in "Walking with Dinosaurs," and was rather inteligent. If they brought back one, the best and safest choice would be Leallynasaura. It was only 6 feet long, (and its' tail was half of it's body length) It could be a house pet!
My fav meat-eater is Baryonyx. I saw a highly detailed pic of it and it was awsome! It had a huge thumb claw, (10 inches long, it I remember correctly, ) About 5 foot smaller than T-rex, and it had arms that are alot bigger and definitly stronger than a tyrannosaurus', so it could hunt better. As in my own opinon, I belive the less popular theroy that T-rex scavenged, but with the exception it finished off older and weaker dinosaurs. Any way, I love Leallynasaura and Baryonyx. Though you shouldn't bring back Baryonyx!

from Lindsey, age 12, ?, MI, USA; October 14, 2001

In the light of the discussion on dinosaur speeds, I conjured up some calculations.
Let's say Velociraptor had a stride of 2 ft. maximum. If it took one stride per second, how fast would it go? Well, the answer is this:
Velociraptor could travel 25 to 35 miles per hour in short bursts. (approximately)
I di the same calculation for T-Rex' 16 ft. stride, and I came up with this:
T-Rex could travel over 50 miles per hour in short bursts.

I sorry that you dont' know that recent evidence shows that birds are dinosaurs. People once thought they were related to lizards but now, they know that they are warm blooded birds. Raptors may not look like an ostrich but they are related. As is Gallimimus and Struthiomimus. So believe the old dinosaur facts or you can believe the old facts that are still true and the new facts that prove some of the old facts are wrong.
